Description : Characters of the family; differs from Schisandra (the only other genus of the family) mainly in the fruiting character as indicated in the key to genera above.

1. Filaments free above, connate below and adnate to a conical column which is produced into many subulate appendages above 1 K. ananosma
1. Filaments almost completely fused, and adnate to a globular column which is not produced into subulate appendages above 2
2. Anthers 6–10-seriate, the connectives transversely oblong-ellipsoid (1–2 by 0.5–1 mm). Leaves chartaceous 2 K. heteroclita
2. Anthers 4–6-seriate, the connectives irregularly oblong-turbinate or obovoid (0.8–1.5 by 0.8–2 mm). Leaves coriaceous or subcoriaceous 3 K. scandens
