Description : Evergreen, glabrous tree, 4–10 m high, low branching, crown spreading. Leaves 8–35 cm long, (2–)3–4-jugate; young parts ± viscid; leaflets ovate, ovate-lanceolate or ovate-oblong, 7–16 by 2.5–7 cm, unequal-sided, apex acuminate, broadly acute to obtuse at base, entire, undersurface with few scattered glands along midribs; petiolules 4–10 mm long. Racemes 2–4 cm long, 2–7-flowered, pediceIs 1.5–3.3 cm long. Calyx bud (2.5–)3–6(–9) cm, conical, ± arcuate, beaked. Corolla tube 10–17 cm long; basal tube 8–13 cm long, upper campanulate tube 3–5 cm long. Stamens not exserted. Capsule 30–60 by 2–3 cm, acuminate, straight to slightly arcuate; valves woody; pseudoseptum flat, hard, 1.4–1.8 cm wide. Seeds thick, corky, 13–18 by 6–8 mm, including thick, corky, lateral wings.
Thailand : CENTRAL: Krung Thep Maha Nakhon (Bangkok), Samut Prakan; SOUTH-EASTERN: Trat; PENINSULAR: Surat Thani, Phangnga, Trang, Satun.
Distribution : Widely distributed in the Indo-Pacific area from Malabar, South India (type), Sri Lanka, eastwards throughout tropical SE Asia and Malesia to the New Hebrides and New Caledonia.
Ecology : Scattered in the upper mangrove forests and banks of tidal rivers and estuaries.
Vernacular : Khae thale (แคทะเล)(Southeastern); khae nam (แคน้ำ)(Peninsular).
