Description : A family of about 120 genera and some 650 species, mostly tropical and subtropical with a few genera in warm temperate regions. Twelve genera and 23 species are indigenous to Thailand. The family is divided into 3 major tribes (and 2 S American monogeneric tribes): Bignonieae, Tecomeae and Crescentieae. The last named tribe, with. 1-celled fruits, occurs in Africa and the Americas. The Bignonieae are predominantly American, whilst the Tecomeae have about an equal number of genera in the Old and New Worlds.
