Description: Woody vine; branches sparsely strigose, glabrescent, sometimes slightly scabrid. Leaves elliptic to oblong, mostly 6–10 by 3–5 cm; apex rounded to obtuse; base obtuse to acute; blade slightly scabrid; petioles 0.7–1 cm. Panicle terminal, to 20 cm long, up to 80-flowered; flowers 0.8–1 cm across; pedicels 3–7 mm long. Sepals 5, 2 outer ones ca 5 by 3.5 mm, 3 inner ones ca 7 by 5 mm, persistent but not enlarged in fruit. Petals 3, white or pink, ovate-oblong, ca 5 by 2.5 mm. Stamens numerous, 4–5 mm long. Carpels (2–)3, glabrous, with 8–16 ovules; style slightly longer than stamens, persistent. Follicles ovoid, 7–8 by 5–6 mm, acute with ca 2 mm long beak, dehiscent. Seeds 1–2, globular, 2–3 mm in diameter; arils red, fleshy, laciniate, up to 6 mm long.

 

Distribution: Distributed in Malay Peninsula, Cambodia, S. Vietnam and Thailand except in the north and northeastern regions. In open forest and in thickets up to 400 m, also cultivated for ornamental purposes.
