Description: Prostrate subsucculent herb with creeping stems, 4-5 m long, stem reddish brown to greenish, rooting at the nodes, ascending flowering shoots usually up to 10 cm long. Stipules sheath-like, united with the leaf bases, minute toothed. Leaves (sub)sessile, opposite, oblong or spathulate, 1-2.5 cm long; apex acute; base attenuate; blade glabrous, glaucous on bothsides; margin entire. Flower solitary or a pair in the axil of foliage leaves, white or pale blue. Calyx 4; tube 4-angular, ca 4 mm long; lobes ovate, 1–2 mm long. Corolla infundibular; tube 6–7 mm long, inside hairy in the upper half; lobes 4, valvate in bud, triangular, 3–4 mm long. Stamens 4, exserted; filaments slender, 3–4 mm long; anthers oblong, ca 1.5 mm long. Ovary inferior, hidden in stipular sheath, 2-celled, each locule with a solitary ovule attached near the base of the septum; style plus stigma ca 8 mm long, exserted; stigma indistinctly 2-lobed. Fruits crowned by persistent calyx lobes, indehiscent, corky, longitudinally ribbed and laterally compressed, 4–5 mm long. Seed 2 or 1 by abortion, elongate, brown.

 

Distribution: Distributed in S India, Sri Lanka, Andaman Isl., Peninsular Thailand, confined to sandy beaches.
