Description: Tree to ca 10 m tall, stellate-tomentose. Leaves elliptic to broadly ovate, sometimes shallowly 3–5-lobed, 4.5–13.5 cm long; base cuneate to subcordate; apex acute to acuminate; blades minute hairy above, glaucous and densely hairy below; basal veins 3–5, secondary veins 3–4 on each side; tertiary veins transverse, reticulate; petiole 0.5–3 cm long. Flower axillary, solitary or paired, white; pedicels 0.5–1.5 cm long. Epicalyx 3–6, connate at base, segments obovate to oblanceolate, 1.5–3 cm long, 3–5-veined, venation reticulate, densely hairy, persistent. Calyx 5, triangular, 0.7–1 cm, lower half connate, persistent, densely pilose. Petals 5, obovate, 1-2.5 cm long, united to staminal column at base, apex rounded, densely ciliate near base. Staminal column 5–8 mm long; free filaments, 5–7 mm long; anthers reniform, unequal. Ovary ovoid, hairy, 2-locular, ovules 2 in each locule; styles 2-branched, hairy on stylar branches. Distribution: Distributed in Bhutan, India (Sikkim), S China (Yunnan) and N Thailand, recorded from Chiang Rai (Doi Tung) and Chiang Mai (Doi Chiang Dao), on limestone, 1,000–1,900 m. | |
