Description: Rhizomatous herbs, 25-85 cm tall. Basal and lower cauline leaves 1-4, 2.5-11 cm long, including petioles, glabrous, ternate; leaflets rotundate-reniform, 2-7 cm broad, cordate or broadly cordate at base, shallowly 5-7-lobate; lobes coarsely crenate, teeth round or obtuse, apiculate, slightly glaucous below; petioles 3.5-14 cm long; sheaths often auriculate. Cauline leaves 2-4, similar to the basal, but smaller, simpler and shortly petiolate. Inflorescences loosely corymbose, 2-7-flowered, glabrous; peduncles 2-10 cm; bracts elliptic to linear, usually entire; pedicels 1.5-7.2 cm long. Flowers bisexual, 1-1.5 cm diam. Sepals 4, elliptic, obtuse at apex, 4.5-6 by 2.5-4 mm, lilac to purplish, drying blackish. Stamens numerous; filaments drying blackish, clavate, glabrous, 3-7 mm long; anthers linear, 1-2 mm long, connectives minutely projected. Carpels numerous, uniovular. Achenes 15-80 in a head, fusiform, slightly compressed, 3.5-4.5 mm long, glabrous, 2-4 longitudinally costate on each side, abruptly contracted downwards to shortly stalked, tapering gradually to a hamate beak, 0.8-1.2 mm long. |
