Description: Tree, 6–20 m tall, to 60 cm in diam., bark finely fissured, thin; young branchlets quadrangular, glabrous to densely minute hairs. Leaves opposite, lanceolate to elliptic, 7–12 x 2.5–4.5 cm, base broadly acute or rounded, apex acuminate, lamina thin, with 1 pair of lateral primary veins, glabrous above, usually with minute hairs below, petioles 0.3–0.6 cm long. Inflorescences consisting of 3–6 cm long axillary cymes of 3–9 flowers, or flowers solitary. Flowers 4-merous, pedicels 4–8 mm long, floral bracts variable in size and shape, 5–20 mm long. Hypanthium campanulate, 6–7 mm long, covered with flattened scales. Calyx calyptrate, truncate, deciduous upon flowering. Petals broadly ovate to oblong, 5–13 mm long, white, pink, or purplish-blue, apex broadly rounded to acuminate. Stamens 8, isomorphic; anthers ca. 3 mm long, yellow, opening by short slits, connective not prolonged at base and slightly thickened apically. Capsule fleshy, 7–10 mm long, covered with purple-brown tubercles up to 9 mm long. Seeds small, numerous, wedged-shape. |
Distribution: Distributed in Malay Peninsula, Riou Archipelago, Borneo and peninsular Thailand, recorded from Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Trang, Satun, Songkhla and Yala, along steam in evergreen forest, up to 400 m. |
