Description: Hemiparasitic herb, 10–30 cm tall; stem quadrangular, spreading hirsute. Leaves opposite below, alternate above, linear, 0.5–2 cm long. Inflorescences spike; flowers yellow or red, subtened by a small linear leaf-like bract; bracteoles 2, at the base of calyx, subulate, ca 2 mm long. Calyx tubular, 5–8 mm long, 10-ribbed, 5 ribs stout extending to apex; lobes 5, subequal, lanceolate, acuminate, ca 2 mm long. Corolla bilabiate; tube 1–1.3 cm long, shortly glandular-pilose outside, abruptly incurved at the top; limb spreading; 2 upper lobes ca 3 by 4 mm; 3 lower lobes ca 5 by 2.5–3 mm, shortly pilose on margin. Capsule longitudinally bivalved, ovoid or subglobose, 2–3 by 2 mm, included in persistent calyx. Seed numerous, longitudinally striate.

 

 

Distribution: Distributed in tropical Africa and Asia, in Thailand found throughout the country in open deciduous and grass lands, to 800 m altitude.
