Description: Tree to 25 m, buttresses at base; resin clear to white. Indumentum densely shortly fine reddish-brown tufted tomentose on twigs, stipules, petioles, inflorescences and calyx. Buds ovoid, 3–5 mm long. Stipules ovate-lanceolate, 0.5–1.5 cm long, caducous. Leaves lanceolate, 6–12 cm, chartaceous, glabrous; apex acuminate, tapering to 1.5 cm long; base obtuse; secondary nerves 9–12 on each side; tertiary nerves reticulate; petioles 1.5–2 cm long, swollen above. Inflorescences 1–3 cm long; branchlets short, bearing 2–4 flowers; flower buds oblong, ca 1 cm; pedicels 2–3 mm long. Calyx 5 lobes, lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, ca 3 mm long, 2 inner slightly narrower. Petals 5, obovate-oblong, ca 1 cm long, pinkish-red with yellow patches at base, fragrant. Stamens 15, in 3 whorls, the inner slightly longer than the outer; filaments ca as anther length, gradually broadening towards base; anthers with 4 pollen sacs, oblong, ca 0.5 mm, 2 inner smaller than the outer; connective-appendages minute. Ovary superior, tomentose; style columnar, ca as long as the ovary or slightly longer; stigma 3-lobed. Fruiting calyx lobes divided to base; 2 lobes wing-like, tapering towards base, not dilated at base, 5–10 by 0.9–2 cm; 3 short lobes, ovate-lanceolate, acute, 2.5–3.7 by 0.7–1.2 cm; fruit pedicels 5–7 mm long. Nuts subglobose, 0.8–1 by 0.7 cm, reddish-brown tomentose, apiculate.

 

 

Distribution: Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo and peninsular Thailand, recorded from Narathiwat and Songkhla, scattered on ridges, or by streams in evergreen forest, 100–500 m.
