Description: Herbs, climber, roots thickened, elongate; stems purple-green, glabrous. Leaves opposite to subopposite, ovate to cordate, 2.5–8 long; apex acute or obtuse; base cordate; blade sparsely villous below; margins entire to coarsely dentate; petioles 1.5–6 cm long. Flowers simple, axillary; pedicels 1–5 cm long. Calyx adnate below and free from ovary, deeply divided near to base, persistent; lobes ovate-lanceolate, 1–2 cm long. Corolla epigynous, campanulate, 1.5–3.5 cm long, creamy whitish green, purple patches inside; lobes 5, divided to the middle; lobes broad triangular. Stamens 5, adnate below ovary. Ovary inferior to corolla, 5 locular; stigma 3-lobed. Fruits a berry, globose, apically flat, 1.5–2.5 cm in diam., ripen purple. Seeds numerous, surface reticulate. | | | |
Distribution: India, Nepal, Bhutan, S China, Taiwan, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Java, and N Thailand, scattered in montane forest, 1,000–2,000 m.
