Description: Shrubs 3–6 m tall., leaves opposite, elliptic to oblong, 12–35 cm long; apex acute to acuminate; base cuneate, decurrent to the petiole; secondary veins 12–17 on each side; petiole 1.5–5 cm long. Inflorescences thyrsoid, terminal, 14–18 cm long; pedicels 5–12 mm long; bracts and bracteoles minute. Calyx deeply 5-lobed, lanceolatem, 0.6–1 cm long, densely tomentose inside. Corolla tubular, purplish red or pink, densely pubescent outside; tube 3.5–4.2 cm long; lower lip 3-lobed, lobes elliptic, ca 2 mm long; upper lip 2-lobed, slightly smaller than the lower ones. Stamens 2, slightly exserted; anther ca 5 mm long; staminodes 2, small. Ovary and style glabrous. Capsule linear, 4-angled, 3.5–5 cm; seeds 8–10, pubescent.

 

 

Distribution: Bhutan, India, S China, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam. In Thailand mainly found in the northern areas, scattered in the northeastern and central regions, moist places in dry evergreen and montane forests, 300–1,500 m.
