Description: Shrub or rarely small tree, usually 1–3 m tall. Stipules interpetiolar, 4–6 mm long with 2–3 mm long awn. Leaves opposite decussate, elliptic to oblong or ovate-oblong, 7–18 cm. long; apex acute to acuminate; base acute; blade coriaceous; secoundary veins 9–10 on each side; petiole 0.3–1 cm long. Inflorescence corymbose, terminal, peduncle 1–4 cm long. Flowers many withy short pedicels, not fragrant. Calyx with short tube, 0.7–1 mm long; lobes 4, minute, persistent. Corolla orange to orangish yellow or red; tube slender, 2–3.5 cm long, lobes ovate, obtuse, 6–9 mm long. Stamens 4, inserted at the throat; anthers ca as long as filaments, 2–2.5 mm long. Ovary inferior, 2-celled, ovule 1 in each cell; style slender, exserted for 3–4 mm long; stima 2 lobes, recurved, Fruits drupaceous, crownd by the persistent calyx, bilobed, subglobos, 5–8 mm long, with 1–2 one-seeded pyrenes.

 

 

Distribution: Lower Myanmar, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Borneo and throughout Thailand, in partly shaded dryevergreen and evergreen forests, to ca 1,000 m.
