Description: Small tree, 8–10(–15) m. tall; young branches quadrangular. Leaves decussate, elliptic, oblong to ovate-oblong, 4–18 cm. long; apex shortly acuminate, tip obtuse; base cuneate to attenuate; blade glabrous on both surfaces; secondary veins 4–7 on each side, forming a loop near to margin, veinlets loosely reticulate-scalariform; petioles 1.5–3 cm. long. Inflorescences thyrsoid, terminal or subterminal; erect, 4–6 cm; pedicels 1–1.5 cm long; bracts linear, 0.4–1 cm long. Calyx broad campanulate, tube 4–8 mm long; lobes 5, c 1 cm long, apex acuminate. Corolla tube slender, 4–5 cm long; lobes 5, subequal, spreading, elliptic, ca 1 cm long, minute puberulent. Stamens 2 pairs, inserted within corolla tube, alternate with corolla lobes, slightly unequal, exerted 2.5–3 cm. Ovary 4-locular. Style exerted, stigma 2-cleft, 0.3–0.4 mm long. Fruits with 4 pyrenes, 1-seeded; globose, 5 mm in diam. (immature).

 

Distribution: Cambodia, Vietnam and SE Thailand, scattered on slope hills in evergreen forest, 600–1,500 m.
