Description: Perennial herb, subsucculent, tuberform, freshy, stem short. Leaves rosette, simple to deeply lobed, elliptic to obovate in outline, 5–18 cm long; apex optuse; base attenuate; blade sparsely pubescent on both surfaces, often purplish below; petioles to 3 cm long. Inflorescences corymbose, terminal; scape 20–80 cm long; head 1–5, discoid, 1.–1.5 cm in diam.; bracteoles 1–2, linear. Involucres campanulate, 1–1.2 cm long; calyculus 6–9; phyllaries uniseriate, 13–15, 0.7–1.2 cm long. Florets many; yellowish to orangish, tubular, 1–1.3 cm long; tube slender; lobes 5, ovate, ca 1 mm long. Stamens 5; anthers obtuse at base. Style branched, subulate, papillose. Achenes red-brown, cylindric, 3–4 mm long, 10-ribbed; pappus numerous, white, 1–1.2 cm long, sericeous. |
Distribution: Africa, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, China, Myanmar and most parts of Thailand except in the peninsular, open areas, on limestones and pine forest, 500–1,500 m.
