Description: Perennial herb to ca 50 cm tall; stem stout. Leaves rosulate at stem base, obovate, obovate-oblong to oblanceolate, 3–13 cm long; apex acute; base attenuate to wing-like petiole; margins shallowly 3–5-lobed, coarsely irregular dentate; blade nearly glabrous; secondary nerves 6–8 on each side. Inflorescences a compact cymes forming a terminal, involucral head, 3–4 cm in diam. Scapes 5–20 cm long, pubescent. Involucral bracts 2–3-layered, oblong to lanceolate, 1–2 cm long, bracts linear-lanceolate, ca 1 cm long. Calyx segments ca 15, persistent, ca 7.5 mm long, barbellate. Corolla white to pale purple, tubular-funnelform, 1–1.2 cm long; lobes usually 4, elliptic, ca 3.5 mm long. Stamens 4, exerted; anthers ca 3 mm long. Ovary inferior; style exserted, ca as long as stamen; stigma capitate. Achenes adnate to involucel, ca 5 mm long, ridges, sparsely hairs; seed 1.

 

 

Distribution: Endemic to N Thailand, recorded from Doi Chiang Dao in Chiang Mai and Doi Hua Mot in Tak, common in open limestone hills, 900–2,200 m.
