Description: Shrub to small tree, to 12 m tall up to 30 m outside Thailand; barks flaking, wood durable. Leaves alternate, ovate to obovate, usually 3–10 cm long; apex acute or obtuse; base cuneate; blade coriaceous, glabrous; intramarginal vein 1, 0.5–1mm from margin; secondary nerves 17–34 each sides with some intermediate nerves; petiole 2–3 mm long. Inflorescences cymose, axillary, branched, 1–few flowers on each branch; pedicels short. Hypanthium cup-shaped; calyx lobes 5, ca 1 mm. Pseudostripe ca 1 mm long. Petals 5, creamy white to pale yellow, ca 2 mm. Stamens connate at base in to 5 bundles, 5–15 on each bundle, opposite petals; filaments unequal, pubescent at base, 1–2.5 mm long. Ovary semi-inferior, pubescent; style ca 2 mm long. Capsules 1–1.2 cm long, 3-valved. Seeds 8–9 mm long, wings minute rugose.

 

Distribution: India (Andamans), Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo. In Thailand found in northeast, east and peninsular, scattered by stream or on ridges in dry evergreen, evergreen and montane forests, sometimes in swamp forest, to ca 1,500 m.
