Description: Woody climber, to ca 10 m long, stem ca 4 cm in diam., young part pubescent. Stipules linear ca 1 mm long. Leaves opposite, ovate to ovate-oblong, 6–12 cm long; apex acute or acumintate; base rounded or cordate; blade glabrous; margin slightly curved, with 2 glands at base, attached to petioles; petioles 1–2 cm long. Raceme axillary or terminal, 10–20 cm long, flowers decussate; bract 1, 2–3 mm lomg; pedicels 1.5–3 cm long, articulate below the middle; bracteoles 2, ca 1 mm long. Flower 2–3 in diam.; sepals 5, triangular, 3–4 mm long, sometimes with minute glands; petals 5, yellow, slightly unequal, oblong or ovate-oblong, 0.8–1.5 cm long, base sagittate, claws 2–3 mm long. Stamens 10, unequal; filaments broad at base, turning reddish; anthers 2–3 mm long. Ovary 3-lobed, globose, 2–3 mm in diam., each carpel with appendages; style 1, 6–8 mm long, glabrous. Samara star-shaped, 1–2 cm in diam., 8–9 wings, unequal. Seeds 3, 5–6 long.

 

 

Distribution: Taiwan, S Vietnam, Malesia, Pacifics and Australia, commonly found along evergreen forest margins connected to mangrove forest or in mangrove, also cultivated as ornamental plant.
