Description: Perennial herb, to c. 2 m tall, rootstock large, fleshy, branchlets scabrous and hirsute. Stipule linear, c. 1 cm long. Leaves ovate near base, middle part and above ovate-hastate, sagittate or palmately 3–5 lobed; 3–10 cm long; base deeply lobed; margins irregularly dentate; blade slightly hairy on both surfaces; petioles 4–8 cm long. Flower solitary, axillary; pedicel 4–7 cm long. Epicalyx 6–12, linear, c. 1.5 cm long, hirsute. Calyx spatulate, 0.7–1.5 cm long, split in one side, apex 5-shallowly lobed. Corolla 5, yellow, pink or white; lobes obovate, 2.5–3 cm long. Stamidonal column c. 2 cm long, pollen-bearing throughout; filaments subsessile. Ovary hairy; style 5-branbched; stima capitate. Capsule ellipsoid, to c. 3 cm long, hirsute. Seeds reniform, dark brown, glandular. |
Distribution: India, Myanmar, Indochina, Malesia, N Australia and throughout Thailand, more common in the northern part, in open and along the edges of mixed deciduous, dry evergreen to evergreen and pine forests, also on limestiones, to ca 1,000 m.
