Description: Herb to c. 90 cm with creeping rhizomes, monoecious, stems with reddish brown villose. Leaves broadly ovate, lobed, to c. 30 cm long; lobes apex acuminate; base cordate; margins irregularly denticulate; nerves palmate; petioles 0.5–3 cm long. Inflorescences arise from stem or leaves axil, cymose; peduncle 3–15 cm long; Male flowers: tepals 4; outer two obovate, 1–2.5 cm long; inner two elliptic to oblanceolate, 0.7–2 cm long. Stamens numerous. Female flowers: tepals 5–6, oblanceolate to orbicular, unequal, 0.8–2.5 cm long. Ovary villose; syle 2, free, forked; stima spiraled. Fruit a capsule, trigonous, with unequal 3-winged; lower wing 1.5–3 cm long; lateral wings 5 mm long. Seeds numerous, small.

 

 

 

Distribution: India, Nepal, China, Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam. In Thailand mostly found in the north and northeastern, common in montane forest up to ca 2,000 m.
