Description: Perennial, aquatic, with short basal rhizomes. Leaves alternate, broadly ovate to cordate, 3–18 cm; margin entire; densely glandular below; veins palmate, indistinct; petiole 1–2 cm long. Flowers clustered at nodes; pedicel 3–5 cm long. Calyx and corolla 5–8; calyx lobed to near base, oblong to lanceolate, 0.3–0.6 cm; corolla rotate, white with a yellow center; lobes ovate, oblong or lanceolate, 0.7–1.2 cm long, densely pilose. Stamens as number of petals, inserted on corolla tube; filaments flattened, linear, ca 1.5 mm long; anthers sagittate, ca 2 mm. long; nectarines 5, at ovary base; style distylous; stigma 3 lobes, triangular.
