Description: Climbers, branches shallowly grooved, glabrous. Leaves simple lanceolate, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 6–20.5 cm long, apex acuminate, base slightly cordate or subpeltate, basal veins 5–7, petiole 3.5–12 cm. Inflorescences axillary, peduncle 1–11 cm long, few to many flowers, bracts linear or linear-oblong, 0.7–1 cm long, pedicels 4–10 cm, bracteoles 2, minute, to 3 mm; flowers 3–3.5 cm in diam. Sepals 4–6, oblong to lanceolate, 1.5–2 cm long, greenish-brown, densely villose outside, glabrous, purplish to dark blue, reflexed. Petals none. Stamens numerous, 0.8–1.4 cm, sometimes outer ones sterile and becoming linear or petaloid staminodes, anthers 0.2–0.5 cm long, connectives 0.1–0.2 cm long. Distribution: Balngladesh, India, China, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malesia, Philippines, New Guinea. In Thailand found though out the country, but not recorded from the south. Scattered in scrub, forest edges, 300–1,800 m.
