Description: Large tendrilled climber. Stipules ear-shaped, 0.2–0.3 cm long. Leaves simple, alternate, ovate, 6–10 cm long; apex acute, emarginated; base truncate or rounded; blade glabrous on both surfaces; nerves 5–7; petioles 1.5–2.5 cm. Inflorescenses short corymbose, axillary or terminal, many flowers; bracts ovate, 0.3–0.5 cm; pedicels 2–5 cm. Flower buds globose with acute tip, 0.3–0.5 cm in diam. Receptacle tubular, striate, puberulous, 1.2–1.6 cm. Calyx lobes 3–4, reflexed. Petals 5, imbricate, yellowish orange turning red, obovate or lanceolate, subequal, 1.5–2 cm long with short claw, sparsely hairy outside. Stamens 3; filaments thick, hairy, 0.2–0.3 cm. long; anthers ellipsoid, opening by a central pore; staminodes 4–5, minute. Ovary 0.3–0.4 cm long with short stripe, hairy; style short; stigma large, peltate. Pods lanceolate, glabrous, 10–20 cm long.

 

Distribution: Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and lower peninsular Thailand, recorded from Waeng, Narathiwat, edges of evergreen forest, ca 500 m.
