Boraginaceae

Description: Shrub to small tree to 15 m tall, wood orange. Leaves ovate to elliptic, 8–20 cm long, almost entire; apex obtuse to rounded or short acute; base obtuse to rounded; veins 4–6, with some intermediate veins; petioles 2–8 cm. Inflorescences cymose, terminal, peduncle to ca 2 cm long, 4–20 flowers, pedicels to 1 cm long. Calyx tubular, 1–2 cm long, short irregular 3 lobes, pale green. Corolla funnelform, orange, 3–5 cm long; lobes 5–8, rounded. Stamens as number of corolla lobes, inserted base of corolla lobes, exerted. Ovary superior, 4-locular, one ovule in each locule; style twice forked, 2–3 cm long. Fruits drupaceous, included in cupuliform calyx, obovoid, 2–3 cm long; seeds 1–4.

 

Distribution: Widely distributed from east coast of Africa, India, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malesia and Pacific Islands. Not common along the beach, sandy soils or rocky places.
