Melastomataceae

Description: Undershrub with woody stem, to 30 cm tall, densely reddish pilose. Leaves crowded at branches end, also distributed along stem; blade thick, densely reddish pilose below, ovate, 1–3.5 cm long, apex acute, base acute or obtuse, secondary nerves 1–2 arising from base; petioles almost sessile to 2 cm long. Inflorescences axillary, usually at the end of branches, 1–2.5 cm long; flowers up to 8 flowers, pedicels 0.1–0.4 cm. Hypanthium cyclindrical, 0.4–0.6 cm long, minute triangular lobes, hairy. Petals 3, elliptic, pink, 0.9–1.2 cm long. Stamens 3, anthers yellow, 0.7–0.8 cm long, base deeply cordate. Ovary inferior, 3-locular. Capsule funnelform, ca 1 cm long, hairy. Seeds numerous, minute.

 

Distribution: Lower Myanmar (Tenasserim, Andamans) and peninsular Thailand, recorded from Ranong, Phangnga and Nakhon Si Thammarat (Khao Men), on moist rocks or mossy ground in open summit areas, 1,200–1,300m.
