Description: Tree to 25 m tall; bark shallowly fissured, dark grey. Leaves ovate, 12–20 x 7–15 cm; apex acute; base cuneate, obtuse or rounded; margin entire; blade glabrous above, glaucous and pubescent beneath; secondary nerves 3–6 pairs; petioles 3–6 cm long, pubescent, grooved above. Inflorecences terminal, panicle, up to 15 cm long. Bracts linear, 4–5 mm long, caducous. Calyx campanulate, pale green, 8–10 mm long, truncate at apex, pubescent outside, glabrous inside. Corolla pale purple inside with yellow patches on the lower lobe, white-pale purple outside, 4.5–5 cm long, pubescent on both surfaces; lobes 5-lobed, subequal, rounded. Stamens slightly exserted; filaments inserted around the middle of corolla tube. Ovary ovoid, pubescent; style bifid. Fruit a drupe, pale green turning yellow, ovoid, 2.5–3.5 cm long.

 

Distribution: Vietnam, Laos and northeastern Thailand. In Thailand recently recirded from Phu Wua, Boeng Kan, in lowland dry evergreen, ca 200 m.
