Description: Evergreen or deciduous, hemi-epiphytic pseudoviens or tree to 15 m tall. Leaves opposite, leathery, oblong to elliptic, to 30 x 15 cm, sparsely gray-yellow stellate pilose, base cuneate to rounded, apex acute, margin entire. Petiole ca 2 cm. Inflorescences thyrses, 10–20 cm long, narrow; cymes many-flowers; peduncle to 1 cm; pedicel short. Bracteole 2, small. Calyx campanulate, to 8 mm, irregularly 3 or 4-lobed or apex truncate, lobes orbicular to broadly ovate. Corolla pinkish, to 3.5 cm, tube short, outside stellate hairy incurved; limb 2-lipped; lower lip 3-lobed; upper lip 2-lobed. Stamens 4, didynamous, hairy, inserted near tube base, exserted; staminodes absent. Ovary ovoid-globose, glabrous, obscurely 6-striate. Styles elongated; stigma inconspicuous. Capsule oblong to linear-oblong, 2.5–4 cm, 2-valved, septicidal. Seeds numerous, linear, ca 7 x 1.5 mm, narrowly membranous winged. | | | |
Distribution: S China (Yunnan), Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sikkim, Myanmar and Indochinain. In Thailand recorded from Chiang Mai (Doi Inthanon, Doi Chiang Dao),Loei (Phu Kradueng), Phitsanuloke (Phu Miang), and Chanthaburi (Khao Soi Dao) in montane forest and open rocky areas, 1,300–2,500 m.
