Description: Scandent vine with fine lines. Leaves 1, 2 or 3–5 foliolate; petioles 3–4 cm; leaflets oblong or slightly obovate-oblong with sinuate margin, chartaceous, glabrous on both surfaces; apex acuminate; base distinctly unequal on lateral leaflets; secondary nerves 4–6 pairs with some intermediate nerves; petiolules up to 6 cm on terminal leaflet, 1–2 cm on one of lateral pairs, another one very short. Inflorescences a leaf-opposed panicle of lamella, fleshy and foliaceous; lamella rectangular with entire, undulate or dentate margin; peduncle 20–25 cm long. Flowers divided into two sections; lamellate flowers (pedicel absent) hermaphordite, 4–5-merous; pedicellate flowers 4-merous with c. 1.5 cm pedicels; petals small, ovate-triangular; sepals obscure in lamellate flowers, cupuliform in pedicellate flowers; anthers small, ovate-oblong; filaments filiform, minute. Distribution: Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, Sumatra, Java and peninsular Thailand (Narathiwat, Phangnga), common by streams in lowland evergreen forest, 50–100 m. The genus Pterisanthes is characteristic with most peculiar flattened ribbon–like inflorescences, which the flowers and fruits are produced of the flat ribbon, and there are a number of stalked flowers on the edge of ribbon which they may have an ovary but no stamens, or either ovary nor stamens.
