Description: Scandent shrub; twigs angular; thorns 2–6 mm long. Leaves ovate to oblong, coriaceous, densely dark-brown tomentose beneath. Flowers 3–12 in terminal corymbs. Sepals very imbricate, orbicular, brown-tomentose outside. Petals violet and white, obovate. Stamens numerous (± 75), dark pink to white. Fruits (imature) brownish, densely velvety. | | | |
Distribution: It is distributed from S China (Yunnan) to Indochina (Tonkin, Annam) and northern Thailand. It is scattered in open old clearings in montane forest, 700–1,300 m, recorded from Tak (Huai Kasa) and Nan (Doi Phu Kha).
