Description : Perennial herb; stems trailing or twining, glabrescent to sparsely pubescent. Stipules foliaceous, peltate, green, sometimes with reddish brown spot near centre, ovate, broadly ovate or broadly elliptic, 12–17 by 7–9 mm, apex acute, base subcordate or obtuse, margin entire or slightly undulate, glabrous to glabrescent and sparsely pubescent along margin, persistent. Leaves: petioles 7.5–15 cm long, glabrescent to sparsely pubescent; rachis 1–1.8 cm long, glabrescent to sparsely pubescent. Leaflets ovate, broadly ovate, or suborbicular, 2.3–4.5 by 2.2–4.8 cm, distinctly deeply 3-lobed, apex obtuse, rarely acute or retuse, base obtuse or rounded, margin entire or slightly undulate, sparsely pubescent along viens; lateral veins 3–6 pairs; petiolules 2–3 mm long, pubescent; stipels elliptic or ovate, 1–2.5 by 0.5–1.5 mm, apex acuminate or acute, glabrous on both sides. Inflorescence axillary, 4–6-fascicled, arranged in nodose-pseudoracemes; peduncles 19–38 cm long, glabrous, glabrescent to sparsely pubescent; axis 0.4–1 cm long, glabrescent to sparsely pubescent; bracts ovate, ca 2.5 long, apex acute, outside glabrescent to sparsely pubescent, inside glabrous. Flowers 1–2 in each fascicle, bright yellow; pedicels 1–2 mm long, glabrous; bracteole attached to pedicel narrowly ovate, 3–3.5 by ca 1.2 mm, apex acuminate, base obtuse, glabrous; bracteoles appressed to base of calyx tube lanceolate, 3–4 by 1–1.2 mm, slightly longer than calyx, apex acute or attenuate, base truncate, glabrous, persistent. Calyx: tube ca 2 by 3 mm; upper lobes connate, apex slightly divided to very shallow lobes; lower lobes deltoid, ca 0.5 mm long, apex acute, glabrous. Corolla: standard outside pale yellow or pale brownish yellow, inside yellow, obliquely reniform, ca 0.8 by 1–1.2 cm, apex emarginate, base with 2 small auricles, claw ca 1 mm long; wings bright yellow, obovate, ca 0.8 by 0.4–0.5 cm, apex obtuse, near base with 1 appendage, ca 1 mm long, claw white, ca 2 mm long; keel pale yellow or pale brownish yellow, falcate, 0.8–0.9 by ca 0.3 cm, spirally incurved upward to beak, apex truncate, claw white, 2–2.5 mm long, the left petal with a short horn-like pocket, 1–1.5 mm long. Stamens: filaments white, ca 0.8 cm long; anthers yellow, elliptic, ca 0.5 mm long. Pistil 0.8–1 cm long; ovary linear, densely white hirsute; beak beyond the stigma small ca 0.2 mm long; stigma purplish green. Pods: young pods green, dry pods blackish brown or black, linear, 4–5.5 by 0.2–0.3 cm, spreading, sparsely brown scabrid; fruit stalk 2–3 mm long, glabrous. Seeds 12–14, young seeds green, dry seeds black or brown with black dots, oblong, 2–3 by 1.8–2 mm, without aril.

Distribution : Madagascar, Yemen, India (type), Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam, Indonesia, Irian Jaya.
Ecology : Cultivated and sometimes naturalized in open areas, roadsides, or disturbed areas; 20–350 m alt. Flowering and fruiting: August–September.
Vernacular : Thua khiao malet lek (ถั่วเขียวเมล็ดเล็ก); thua phi (ถั่วผี)(Lop Buri).
