Description : Tree 5–15 m tall, deciduous; trunk and branches with brownish large conical prickles, bark smooth to slightly rough, greyish brown to light brown, with small scattered brownish prickles; terminal branchlets usually with prickles. Stipules linear, ca 1 cm long, triangular-lanceolate, 5–8 mm long. Leaves glabrous, coriaceous; petioles 4–10.5 cm long; rachis 2.4–4 cm long; petioles and rachis usually with 1–3 prickles. Leaflets: terminal leaflet broadly ovate, deltoid or rhomboid, 2.5–7 by 2.3–8.5 cm, 3-lobed; middle lobe apex acute to obtuse; lateral lobes obtuse, base cuneate to truncate; lateral veins 4–7 pairs; lateral leaflet similar but smaller than terminal leaflet, base oblique; petiolules 4–6 mm long; stipels glandular, tiny, rounded. Inflorescences terminal from branchlets, horizontals, 10–20 cm long; bracts subulate, 2–3 mm long, caducous. Flowers 15–20, secund, with 3 flowers per fascicle; pedicels ca 6 mm long, simple hairs usually dense; bracteoles acicular, 2–3 mm long. Calyx campanulate, 2-lobed, 7–12 by 5–10 mm; tube 3–5 mm long; lobes orbicular, 4–6 by 5–6 mm, apex acute, simple hairs dense, caducous. Corolla scarlet; standard ovate, 2.6–3.5 by 1–2.3 cm, apex obtuse, with short claw; wings obliquely subovate, reddish green, 5–7 by 3–4 mm; keel obliquely ovate, connate, 8–13 by 5–8 mm, yellowish green, reddish brown at margin. Stamens 2.5–2.8 cm long, glabrescent. Ovary pubescent, stipitate; style pubescent. Pods oblong to lanceolate, apex caudate, 5–11.5 by 0.7–1.2 cm, leathery, glabrous when mature. Seeds 1–3, ellipsoid or bean-shaped, 0.9–1.5 by 0.5–0.7 cm, pale or dark brown.


Thailand : NORTH-EASTERN: Loei (Pha Khao – type: Tetsana et al. 1274, holotype -BKF, isotypes -BKF SING).


Distribution : Endemic.


Ecology : On the limestone hill, ca 450 m alt.


Vernacular : Thong lang hin pun (ทองหลางหินปูน), thong lang khot (ทองหลางโขด).
