Description : Herbaceous climber, twining right; stems terete. Stipules ovate to lanceolate, 3–5 by 1.5–3 mm, apex acute to acuminate, base rounded, margin entire, both surfaces hairy. Leaves spiral or alternate; petioles 7–20 cm long, sparsely hairy; rachis 4–8 cm long, sparsely hairy. Leaflets: petiolules 5–8 mm long, sparsely hairy; blade chartaceous to subcoriaceous, becomes thinner when dry, broadly elliptic-ovate, broadly ovate, or ovate, 11–20 by 7–12 cm, apex acuminate to acute, base rounded to obtuse, margin entire, both surfaces sparsely hairy; lateral veins 6–8 pais; stipels subulate, 1–2 mm long, persistent or caducous. Inflorescences decurved, 30–40 cm long with 15–30 swollen nodes; peduncles 20–30 cm long, glabrescent; axis 7–18 cm long, sparsely to densely hairy. Flowers: pedicels 2–3 mm long; bracteoles ovate, ca 1.5 by 1 mm, apex obtuse, base rounded, margin entire, caducous. Calyx 1–2 cm long, light green, outside sparsely hairy to glabrous, inside glabrous; tube 0.8–1.3 cm long, 0.6–1 cm in diameter; upper lip 2-lobed, lobes semicircular, 0.4–0.7 by 0.5–1 cm; lower lip 3-lobed, lobes triangular, 1.5–3 by 1.5–2.5 mm. Corolla: standard obcordate, 2.5–4 by 2–3.2 cm, apex cleft, base clawed, 5–7 mm long, margin revolute; wings free, ligulate, 2–3.5 by 0.5–0.7 cm, curved, apex rounded, base clawed, 8–9 mm long, margin entire, undulate; keel 2.5–3.5 by 0.5–1 cm, apex rounded to obtuse, base free, clawed, 7–8 mm long. Stamens: filaments 3.2–4 cm long; anthers 2–2.5 by 1.3–1.5 mm. Ovary oblong, 1.5–2.5 cm long, laterally compressed, densely hairy, base stipitate, ca 5 mm long; style 1–2 cm long; stigma capitate, glabrous; disc annular, ca 3 mm in diameter. Pods oblong, 16–40 by 3–5.5 cm, 1–4 cm thick, laterally compressed, sometimes turgid, green turning brown to dark brown with age, additional ribs 5–8 mm away from the ventral suture, tip beaked, 5–6 mm long, base stipitate, 1–2 cm long, valves woody, twisting upon dehiscence, exocarp smooth, sparsely hairy, glabrous when mature; fruit stalk 0.5–1.5 cm long, thick. Seeds ellipsoid, slightly laterally compressed, glabrous; hilum linear to narrowly oblong, 1.4–2.6 cm long.
