Notes: The name Zingiber montanum has been applied to cassumunar ginger since 1998 (Theilade, Gard. Bull. Singapore 48: 225. 1998) but new evidence published by Bai et al. (Taxon 68: 1334–1349. 2019) indicates that the specimen collected by Koenig (C), which was thought to be the type of Z. montanum by Theilade, does not match Koenig’s protologue. Furthermore, cassumunar ginger is never found in the wild in Thailand even though it has been commonly grown and used as medicine by the Thai for a few centuries. Therefore the name Z. montanum is no longer considered to apply to the cassumunar ginger but to the wild, native ginger described above. The correct name for cassumunar ginger is now Z. purpureum Roscoe.
