Description : Rhizomatous herb 0.5–1.5 m tall, sprawling, glaucous; rhizome erect, 5–6 cm long, pale yellow, inner layer darker than outer, odour mild. Leaf sheaths 3–4 bladeless, glaucous, purplish red; ligule light green, bilobed, lobes to 3 mm long, glaucous; blades 20–23, linear, 12–18 by 1–1.2 cm, green above, red below, apex acuminate, sessile. Inflorescences borne terminally on leafy stem or radical with long and erect peduncle; peduncle 10–20 cm long, with ca 9 sheathing bracts, lower half pink or red, glaucous; spike fusiform, 10–15 by 2–3 cm, apex acute to acuminate; bracts elliptic to obovate, 3.5–3.6 by 2.3–2.5 cm, yellowish green turning orange-red at fruiting, glaucous, glabrous; bracteoles oblong, 3.7–4 by 1.8–2 cm, glabrous. Flower yellow; ovary ca 7 by 4–5 mm, glabrescent, ovules 10–13 per locule; epigynous glands 5–7 mm long; calyx tube 0.9–1 cm, lobes 1.1–1.2 cm long; floral tube yellow, 2.7–3 cm, dorsal corolla lobe 2.3–2.9 by 1.3–1.4 cm, lateral corolla lobes 2.2–2.7 by 0.7–0.8 cm; labellum yellow, broadly elliptic, midlobe 1.3–1.6 by 1.6–2 cm, apex bilobed, side lobes rounded, 4–5 by 4–6 mm; stamen: filament 2–3 mm long; anther 1.2–1.3 by 0.3–0.4 cm, anther crest yellow, 1.2–1.4 cm long, tip equal to stigma. Fruit ellipsoid, ca 2 by 1 cm, glabrous.
Thailand : NORTH-EASTERN: Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon (Phu Phan), Mukdahan; EASTERN: Chaiyaphum, Amnat Charoen, Ubon Ratchathani (Khong Chiam, Pha Taem, Phu Chong Na Yoi).
Distribution : Cambodia (Siem Reap – type), Laos, Vietnam.
Ecology : Open areas in deciduous forests. Flowering in rainy season, June–August.
Vernacular : Khing kratai (ขิงกระต่าย).
