Description : Clump-forming herb, 0.3–0.5 m tall. Leafy shoots slender; sheaths dark green, reticulate; ligule bilobed, apex dry, papery, 3–7 mm long; blades 4–5, obovate-oblong to elliptic, 20–46 by 9–15 cm, papery, glabrous, base attenuate to obtuse, apex acuminate, tip caudate, 0.5–1.5 mm; petiole 10–25 cm long. Inflorescence conical, ovate or obovate, ca 6–10 by 4.5–8 cm; peduncle 5–16 cm long; flowering heads ca 6-flowered, lax; peduncular bracts broadly oblong, pinkish green, pubescent, 1–2.3 by 1.2–2.5 cm, apex emarginate; fertile bracts broadly ovate, 0.8–1.8 by 0.5–1.5 cm, brown, apex round; bracteoles absent. Flower white; ovary oblong to elliptic, ca 5 by 2 mm, sparsely pubescent; style hairy; stigma abruptly widened, margin of ostiole hairy; epigynous glands blunt, 3–4 mm long; calyx 1.4–2 cm long including ovary, apex trifid, pubescent at base; corolla cream, floral tube glabrous, ca 1.8 cm long including ovary, dorsal corolla lobe oblong, ca 1.5 by 0.5 cm, apex mucronate, lateral corolla lobes narrower, apex blunt, hooded; lateral staminodes absent; labellum trilobed, orbiculate, ca 2 cm diam., spreading, base clawed ca 3 mm long, apex emarginate, white with pale yellow blotches from base towards apex and radiating reddish purple spots from base to middle; stamen: filament 2–3 by ca 1 mm, linear, glabrous; anthers 7–8 by 2.5–3 mm, glabrous, dehiscing lengthwise, anther crest trilobed, round, ca 7 by 2 mm, whitish, central lobe 3–1 mm, slightly reflexed at back of anther, lateral lobes ca 2 by 1 mm. Fruit globose or broadly elliptic, 9-winged, young fruit ca 1 by 0.8 cm, pale yellow or reddish yellow, glabrous or sparsely pubescent; fruit stalk ca 5 mm; seeds globose, ca 10–15 per locule, 0.3 cm long, aril white.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Rai, Phitsanulok; NORTH-EASTERN: Loei, Bueng Kan, Kalasin; EASTERN: Nakhon Ratchasima (Khao Yai); SOUTH-EASTERN: Sa Kaeo (Pang Sida), Chanthaburi (Khlong Khruea Wai).


Distribution : China, Cambodia (type), Laos, Vietnam.


Ecology : Dry evergreen forests, in shade of trees or shrubs, 320–700 m alt. Flowering and fruiting: April–August.


Vernacular : Reo indochin (เร่วอินโดจีน).
