Description : Tree to ca 20 m tall. Young branches densely pubescent. Leaves coriaceous, ovate, lanceolate or rarely oblong, 6.5–21.5 by 3–10 cm, base rounded or slightly cordate, apex acute to short-acuminate, glossy above, densely pubescent below, secondary veins (8–)14–20 pairs, without domatia; petioles 4–12.5 mm long. Inflorescence with rachides simple, the rachis internodes remaining short, < 3-flowered, densely pubescent, pedicels 11–23 mm long. Sepals broadly ovate, 5–9 by 5–9 mm, densely pubescent abaxially. Outer petals yellow, lanceolate to oblanceolate, 16–19(–34) by 7.5–18 mm, margin undulate with age, densely pubescent abaxially. Inner petals cream-yellow with purple streaks apically, 8.5–16.5 by 7–12.5 mm, densely pubescent towards apex abaxially, pilose towards apex adaxially. Stamens 1–1.3 mm long. Carpels 12–17, 1.5–1.7 mm long; ovules 10–12. Fruit of 9–15 monocarps borne on a pedicel 15–34 mm long, densely pubescent. Monocarps pale yellow to orange-yellow or orange-brown when mature, globose, 1.2–2.3 by 0.85–2 cm, smooth, without longitudinal ridge, glaucous, densely pubescent, stipe 16.5–29(–39) mm long, glaucous, densely pubescent. Seeds 4–10, ca 12 by 8 mm.
Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai; NORTH-EASTERN: Nong Bua Lam Phu; SOUTH-WESTERN: Uthai Thani, Phetchaburi (Khao Cholai – type of Mitrephora edwardsii Pierre: Pierre 1686, lectotype -P); SOUTH-EASTERN: Chachoengsao, Chon Buri (Si Racha – type of M. collinsae Craib: Collins 507, lectotype -K, isotypes -ABD [2 sheets]).
Distribution : India (type), China, Cambodia, Vietnam.
Ecology : Evergreen forests, 50–1,200 m alt. Flowering: January–April; fruiting: May–September.
Vernacular : Ma puan (มะป่วน)(Northeastern); lamduan dong (ลำดวนดง)(Chanthaburi).
