Description : Shrub or tree to 6 m tall. Young branches sparsely pubescent. Leaves coriaceous, ovate to lanceolate, 7.5–17.5 by 2.5–6 cm, base acute or obtuse, apex acute, matt above, sparsely pubescent below, secondary veins 7–11 pairs, without domatia; petioles 3–8.5 mm long. Inflorescences with rachides simple, the rachis internodes remaining short, < 3 flowered, densely pubescent, pedicels 4.5–9 mm long. Sepals deltate, 3–4 by 3–4.5 mm, densely pubescent abaxially. Outer petals yellow, broadly ovate, 9.5–18 by 6.5–9.5 mm, margin undulate with age, densely pubescent abaxially. Inner petals yellow marked with pink, 7.5–9.5 by 4.5–6 mm, densely pubescent abaxially, pilose towards apex adaxially. Stamens 1–1.2 mm long. Carpels 12–14, 1.5–1.8 mm long; ovules 6–12. Fruit of 4–9 monocarps borne on a pedicel ca 10 mm long, sparsely pubescent. Monocarps red when mature, oblongoid, 1.4–3 by ca 0.75 cm, smooth, without longitudinal ridge, not glaucous, sparsely pubescent, stipe 3–3.5 mm long, not glaucous, sparsely pubescent. Seeds 4–12, 14–8.5 by ca 7.5 mm.


Thailand : SOUTH-WESTERN: Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan (Bang Saphan – type: Keith s.n., holotype -SING, isotype -K); SOUTH-EASTERN: Rayong; PENINSULAR: Phangnga.


Distribution : Myanmar, Peninsular Malaysia.


Ecology : Evergreen forests over limestone, sea level to 300 m alt. Flowering: December–March; fruiting: July–August.


Vernacular : Klai (กลาย); kluai khang (กล้วยค่าง)(Bangkok).
