Description : Shrub or treelet to 4 m tall, evergreen. Twigs ± tomentose. Leaves chartaceous, elliptic to narrowly elliptic, 7.5–17.5 by 2.3–5.5 cm, base cuneate to narrowly cuneate, symmetrical, apex acuminate to caudate-acuminate, glabrous on upper surface, almost glabrous to villous on lower surface, secondary veins 11–18 per side, tertiary venation reticulate. Inflorescences axillary or in axils of fallen leaves, 1–2-flowered, peduncles ca 2 mm long or absent, rachis absent, pedicels 15–60 mm long, each bearing 1–3 bract(s). Flowers hermaphroditic. Sepals free, ovate-triangular to narrowly ovate-triangular, 1.5–3 mm long, apex ± acute. Outer petals narrowly triangular, 4–6 by 0.8–1 mm, apex acute-acuminate. Inner petals yellowish green, with reticulate discolouration on basal half, chartaceous, usually tightly pressed together along margins from base to ± midpoint, ovate, 10–21 by 6–12 mm, apex acute to sub-acute, base moderately saccate, presence or absence of glandular structures undetermined, with translucent window-like structures. Stamens 34–52, 0.8–1.2 mm long, anther connective apex obtuse to rounded. Carpels 32–50, ovaries puberulous-tomentose, sometimes hairs also appressed, stigmas ± ellipsoid to terete; ovule(s) 1(–2), lateral to basi-lateral, uniseriate when 2 ovules. Receptacle short-cylindrical, apex sub-acute to rounded. Fruit of up to 50 monocarps borne on a pedicel up to 60 mm long. Monocarps dark purple, subglobose to ellipsoid, 0.7–1.1 by 0.6–0.7 cm, ± slightly verruculose, glabrous, apex sometimes apiculate, base contracted into a stipe 6–12 mm long, often obliquely attached to seed-containing portion. Seed(s) 1(–2), subglobose to ellipsoid, sometimes slightly flattened, 6.5–10 by 5.5–6 mm.

Distribution : China, Laos.
Ecology : Shaded areas of evergreen or mixed evergreen-deciduous forests, on shale, granite, or limestone bedrock, along streams, 500–1,700 m alt. Flowering: February–May, October, November; fruiting: June–November.
Vernacular : Mong kong (มงกง), salit (สลิด)(Northern); ra khang khiao (ระฆังเขียว)(Northern, Southwestern).
