Accepted Name : This is currently accepted.
Description : Woody climber up to 6 m high. Twigs densely orange to reddish brown-tomentose, eventually glabrate. Leaves chartaceous to coriaceous, drying shiny dark brown above, light orange-brown and sometimes glaucous below, oblanceolate, broadly oblong, elliptic, obovate to oblong-obovate, 10–29.7 by 6.5–15.3 cm, base cordate to rounded, apex rounded to truncate-retuse, occasionally with a short mucro ca 2 mm long, sparsely pubescent, more densely so on midrib above, pubescence densest along venation below, secondary veins 7–12 per side; petioles 4–10 mm long, flattened above, pubescent. Inflorescences supra-axillary or rarely apparently axillary, 1–2-flowered, pedicels 6–14.4(–25) mm long, tomentose, with a clasping ovate bract 4–7 mm long near pedicel apex. Sepals valvate, subcoriaceous, ovate, 9–14(–17) mm long, acute to acuminate, weakly ca 5-veined, tomentose. Petals cream-coloured, coriaceous; outer petals appressed in bud, spreading at anthesis, with a pinkish purple blotch on the inner base, lanceolate, 12.6–17 by ca 5 mm, triquetrous (three-angled in cross-section) toward apex, obtuse to acute, concave in basal 1/2, pubescent; inner petals forming a cone half the length of the outer petals, margins without protrusions at midpoint, pubescent. Stamens not examined. Carpels ca 40, oblong, stigmas falcate-capitate, cleft down the side. Fruit of up to 5 monocarps borne on a pedicel 14–32 mm long with bract and sepals persistent. Monocarps red, broadly ellipsoid to ovoid, 0.8–1.7 by 0.6–1.2 cm, densely pubescent, apex rounded and apiculate, stipe 2.4–5(–10) by 1.6–2.5 mm. Seeds ellipsoid to broadly ellipsoid, 7–11 by 6–8 mm, brown, smooth.
Thailand : PENINSULAR: Ranong (Khlong Nakha WS), Phangnga (Si Phangnga NP), Narathiwat (Cha Nae).
Distribution : Peninsular Malaysia (type), Singapore.
Ecology : Moist evergreen forests, 100–600 m alt. Flowering: January, February, and April; fruiting: April and July.
Vernacular : Bu nga darika (บุหงาดาริกา).
Notes: In its large leaves Friesodielsia calycina resembles F. latifolia, and the species are sometimes confused. The larger sepals (over three times as long), fewer secondary veins, shiny upper leaf surfaces, and short-stipitate monocarps distinguish F. calycina from F. latifolia.
