Description : Tree to 10 m tall. Young branches densely hairy. Leaves subcoriaceous, elliptic to oblong, 12–23 by 4.5–7.5 cm, base slightly cordate, apex acute, glabrous above, sparsely hairy and glaucous below; midrib glabrous or sparsely hairy above, densely hairy below, secondary veins 10–15 pairs, slightly impressed above; petioles 3.5–6.5 mm long, densely hairy. Flowers on young growth, pedicels 16–55(–90) mm long, sparsely hairy. Sepals 1.5–4 by 2–3.5 mm. Petals yellow, lanceolate, 40–95 by 11–20(–35) mm, length/width ratio 2.5–5.2, spirally twisted, chartaceous, glabrous adaxially, sparsely hairy abaxially; floral chamber 5.5–8 mm long (10–15% of petal length). Stamens 100–110, anther connective apex truncate; pollen verrucate. Carpels 20–25, stigmas glabrous. Fruit pedicels 12–80 mm long, sparsely hairy. Monocarps 5–22, red, 1.3–4.4 by 0.45–0.7 cm, ellipsoid (1-seeded) or moniliform (≥ 2-seeded), sparsely hairy; constrictions 1.6–3 mm wide (25–55% of monocarp width), stipe 4.5–7 mm long, sparsely hairy. Seeds 1–5, 6–9 by 5–6.5 mm, length/width ratio 1.2–1.6, ellipsoid.


Thailand : PENINSULAR: Narathiwat.


Distribution : Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore (type).


Ecology : Lowland forests, sea level to 300 m alt. Flowering: April–October; fruiting: June–November.


Vernacular : Burong kan khon (บุหรงก้านขน).


Notes: A similar plant recently discovered in Songkhla Province, but with more twisted petals (Plate VIII: H.) may represent a distinct species.
