Description : Tree to 30 m tall. Young branches densely pubescent, becoming glabrous. Leaves subcoriaceous, elliptic or oblong, 11.5–29 by 4–11 cm, base cuneate or subrounded, equilateral, apex acute, glabrous below, midrib prominent above, secondary veins (11–)15–19(–22) pairs, tertiary and higher order venation indistinct above; petioles 5–15 mm long. Inflorescences on twigs or older branches, 1–4-flowered, pedicels 3.5–10.5 mm long, pedicel bracts 2–5 by 1.5–5.5 mm. Sepals free, 4.5–13 by 2.5–6 mm. Petals oblong, pendent. Outer petals 18–70(–92) by 3–6(–10.5) mm above constriction, 2.5–5.5 mm wide below constriction. Inner petals 18.5–60(–94) by 2–8 mm above constriction. Stamens 48–102, 1–1.9 mm long. Carpel glabrous; ovules 12–22, biseriate. Receptacle shallowly conical. Monocarp grey-brown, ovoid or globose, 1.7–8.3 by 1.2–6.9 cm, sessile; pericarp 3.4–9.1 mm thick when dried. Seeds biseriate, 10–13 per monocarp, 25–35 by 16.5–22 mm.
Thailand : NORTHERN: Phayao; PENINSULAR: Chumphon, Surat Thani, Phuket, Krabi, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Trang, Satun, Songkhla.
Distribution : Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra (type).
Ecology : Primary rain forests, on yellow-red loamy soil or granite bedrock, 50–400(–600) m alt. Flowering and fruiting throughout the year.
Vernacular : Kham fu (คำฟู); kradang nga dong (กระดังงาดง)(Surat Thani).
Notes: In the material from Phayao Province, the sepals have a proportionally shorter acumen and outer petals distinctly widest just above the constriction rather than more or less even in width for most of the length.
