Description : Tree to 33 m tall. Young branches sparsely pubescent, becoming glabrous. Leaves subcoriaceous, elliptic or oblong, 9.5–23 by 3–9 cm, base cuneate or subrounded, apex acute, glabrous on both surfaces, midrib prominent above, secondary veins (10–)12–15(–17) pairs, tertiary and higher order venation distinctly prominent above; petioles 6.5–19 mm long, glabrous. Inflorescences on twigs, 1–3-flowered, pedicels 2.5–8 mm long, pedicel bracts 1–5 by 1–2 mm. Sepals free, 1.5–5.5 by 2.5–6 mm. Petals linear or narrowly oblong, expanded. Outer petals 22–40(–53) by 1.5–3.5 mm above constriction, 2–5.5 mm wide below constriction. Inner petals 20–47 by 1–2.5 mm above constriction. Stamens 42–71, 1–2.2 mm long. Carpel glabrous; ovules 12–19, 2–3(–4)-seriate. Receptacle broadly conical. Monocarp pale yellow, globose or ovoid, 4–5.5 by 4–5.5 cm, stipe 3–5 mm long; pericarp 2–3.5 mm thick when dried. Seeds 2–3(–4)-seriate, ca 10 per monocarp, ca 25 by 15 mm.


Thailand : EASTERN: Chaiyaphum; SOUTH-EASTERN: Chanthaburi.


Distribution : Laos (type).


Ecology : Evergreen forests, 10–400 m alt. Flowering and fruiting throughout the year.


Vernacular : Kluai (กล้วย)(Chaiyaphum); teng hin (เต็งหิน)(Chumphon); nang leo (นางเลว)(Chanthaburi); saban nga dong (สะบันงาดง)(Northern); sa raek (สาแหรก)(Lampang, Nakhon Sawan); salaeng (แสลง)(Phitsanulok): ham chang (หำช้าง)(Tak); ham ma (หำม้า)(Prachuap Khiri Khan).
