Description : Terrestrial plant with clustered pseudobulbs. Pseudobulbs erect, terete from a fusiform base, 1.6–2.2 cm long, 0.8–0.9 cm in maximum diameter. Foliage leaves 2–3 per pseudobulb, non-articulate, plicate, petiolate; lamina ovate to elliptic, acuminate, 2–2.5 by 0.8–2 cm, membranous or herbaceous, 3- to 5-veined (rarely 7-veined). Inflorescence erect, 5.4–6.8 cm long, lax, 4- to 10-flowered (rarely up to 15-flowered); peduncle stout, angular-terete, slightly winged; floral bracts suberect, broadly lanceolate, 3–5 mm long. Flowers mainly greenish purple, resupinate. Sepals recurved; dorsal sepal linear-lanceolate, acute, 5–5.3 by 1.2–1.4 mm, 3-veined; lateral sepals not twisted, obliquely lanceolate-oblong, obtuse, 4.5–4.8 by 1.6–1.7 mm, 3-veined. Petals linear-lanceolate, obtuse, 6.2–7 by 0.7–0.8 mm, 1-veined, with revolute margins. Labellum uniformly greenish purple; suberect, just above the base abruptly recurved, the distal part beyond the bend nearly straight, in lateral view describing an obtuse to right angle to the proximal part; ovate to orbicular, acute to obtuse, 5.3–5.5 by 5–5.3 mm, bearing a pair of low, subbasal keels; side veins of the outermost longitudinal veins not reaching the labellum margin; margin subentire, glabrous. Column purplish green, 2–2.3 mm long, slender, incurved, front margins distally developed into rounded keels; anther greenish white, transversely elliptic in upper view, acute in front. Ovary (including pedicel) greenish purple to purple, with 6 longitudinal ridges, 8–8.5 mm long.

Distribution : S India, Sri Lanka (type), Sumatra, Java.


Ecology : Tropical evergreen rain forests where it grows in mossy places with loose fertile soil, ca 900 m alt. Flowering: June–September.


Vernacular : Chat komen (ฉัตรโกเมน).
