Description : Epiphytic or epilithic plant with clustered pseudobulbs. Pseudobulbs erect, ovoid to fusiform-ovoid, 3–7.5 cm long, 1.3–2.4 cm in maximum diameter. Foliage leaves 2 per pseudobulb, articulate, conduplicate, subsessile, obovate-lanceolate, acuminate, 13–21 by 1.7–3.6 cm, coriaceous, obscurely veined (mid-vein recognizable). Inflorescence nodding, 13–24 cm long, dense, many-flowered; peduncle slender, elliptic in cross-section; floral bracts suberect, lanceolate, 4.5–6 mm long. Flowers mainly greenish white, resupinate. Sepals recurved; dorsal sepal lanceolate-oblong, subacute, 2.5–3.5 by 0.8–1 mm, 1-veined; lateral sepals not twisted, obliquely oblong-elliptic, acute, 2.5–3.5 by 1–1.5 mm, 1-veined. Petals linear-oblong, obtuse, 2.3–3 by ca 0.3 mm, 1-veined, with revolute margins. Labellum uniformly greenish white; suberect, around the middle abruptly recurved, the distal part beyond the bend straight to slightly recurved, in lateral view describing an acute to right angle to the proximal part; rhombic-ovate, acute, 2–2.7 by 1.4–2 mm, bearing a low, subbasal, bilobed callus; side veins of the outermost longitudinal veins not reaching the labellum margin; margin entire, glabrous. Column greenish white, 1.5–2 mm long, slender, incurved, front margins distally developed into rounded keels; anther whitish green, transversely elliptic in upper view, acute in front. Ovary (including pedicel) whitish green, without longitudinal ridges or wings, 5.5–6.5 mm long.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun (Doi Khun Tan), Phitsanulok (Phu Hin Rong Kla); NORTH-EASTERN: Loei; SOUTH-WESTERN: Kanchanaburi; SOUTH-EASTERN: Chanthaburi (Makham); PENINSULAR: Chumphon, Ranong (Khlong Bang Bon), Surat Thani (Ko Pha-ngan), Phangnga (Si Phangnga), Nakhon Si Thammarat (Khao Luang), Trang, Satun (Than Plio Falls), Pattani (Sai Khao Falls), Yala (Bannang Sata), Narathiwat.


Distribution : Throughout S & SE Asia from the Himalayas to Taiwan and Maluku, type from Java.


Ecology : On shaded branches and rocks in tropical evergreen rain forests, and lower and upper montane rain forests, 20–1,450 m alt. Flowering: August–January.


Vernacular : Ueang khao san (เอื้องข้าวสาร), ueang dok ya (เอื้องดอกหญ้า).
