Inflorescences 15.8–33.7 cm long, white-lanate, sometimes with 1 sterile bract in basal half, 9- to 19-flowered; floral bracts pale yellowish green, membranous, ovate, 10–25 by 3.6–6.5 mm, acute, outer surface lanate. Flowers widely to subdensely spaced, emitting a faintly unpleasant odour. Sepals pale yellow-green, ovate, 5- or 7-veined, acute, densely white lanate outside; dorsal sepal 13.8–16.5 by 3.9–5.8 mm; lateral sepals spreading widely, 12–17.1 by 5.2–8.2 mm; mentum 2.2–5 mm long. Petals pale yellow-green, narrowly elliptic-obovate, 9.7–12.9 by 2.1–3 mm, 3- or 5-veined, acute. Labellum pale yellow-green flushed reddish brown at base and with thick brown apical margin, oblong-ovate, distinctly 3-lobed, 10.2–15.8 by 6–8.8 mm, bearing a low, cushion-like callus that broadens to the full width of the mid-lobe and then gradually tapers to a variably rounded or lobed point at the apex; side lobes 5.2–8.7 mm long, subacute, papillose; mid-lobe quadrate, ovate or obovate, 4.6–5.3 by 3.8–6 mm, margins flat, obtuse to subacute, glabrous. Notes: This is a widespread and morphologically variable species with broad ecological amplitude. In his review of Eria sect. Dendrolirium, Seidenfaden (1982) maintained the NE Indian E. lanata Griff. as a distinct species, whereas other authors have variously considered it synonymous with or a variety of Dendrolirium lasiopetalum. It is tentatively included as a synonym here, although molecular studies are recommended to more decisively address this long-standing question.
