Description : Annual herbs, prostrate or spreading; stem with four conspicuous ciliate wings. Leaves broadly elliptic, 1–3.5 by 0.6–1.5 cm, glabrous or with scattered hairs on veins beneath, lateral veins 3–4 pairs. Inflorescences terminal and axillary, to 8 mm wide. Calyx lobes 2, narrowly triangular, to 1 mm long. Corolla white, 0.4–0.8 mm long; outside glabrous, inside a few short hairs near top of lobes; tube to 0.5 mm long; lobes to 0.3 mm long. Stamens included in corolla tube; filaments shorter, attached near top of corolla tube; anthers 0.1 mm long. Style included in corolla tube; stigma shortly bilobed. Capsules to 1.1 by 0.8 mm, 2-lobed, glabrous, part of septum lamellae remaining attached to valves at dehiscence. Seeds brown, obovate or elliptic, to 1 by 0.5 mm.
Thailand : NORTHERN: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Tak; SOUTH-WESTERN: Kanchanaburi; CENTRAL: Saraburi, Nakhon Nayok; SOUTH-EASTERN: Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat; PENINSULAR: Ranong, Surat Thani, Phangnga, Phuket, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Trang, Songkhla, Pattani, Narathiwat.
Distribution : Tropical America from Mexico to Paraguay (Costa Rica – type), naturalized throughout the Old World tropics.
Ecology : Slightly wetter parts of open disturbed areas, in plantations, also on margin of streams and margin of peat swamp forests, over granite, phyllite or limestone, sea level to 1,550 m alt. Flowering and fruiting: June–January.
