Description : Annual or perennial herbs, 10–20 cm tall procumbent; stems quadrangular, ribbed and grooved, hispid. Stipules sheath truncate, with 5–11 bristles, hispid. Leaves elliptic or narrowly elliptic (1.3–)2.5–6 by (0.2–)0.5–1.2 cm, subcoriaceous, base cuneate, apex acute, margin revolute, scabrous above, hispid beneath, lateral veins 4–6 pairs, indistinct; petiole 0–1 mm long. Inflorescences axillary, capitate, with 4–16 flowers. Flowers white, tubular, homostylous, pedicels ca 0.5 mm long. Calyx tube 0.5–0.8 mm long; lobes deltoid, 1.8–2.2 by 0.6–0.8 mm, erect, margin hispid. Corolla tube 2–3 mm long; lobes oblong, 2.2–2.8 by 0.5–0.6 mm, apex acute, outside hispid at apex, inside glabrous. Stamens exserted from corolla tube; filament 2–2.2 mm long; anthers white, oblong, 0.8–1 by 0.2–0.3 mm. Ovary hispid; style 4.5–5 mm long, glabrous, exserted from corolla tube; stigma ca 0.5 mm long. Capsules globose or ovoid, ca 2.5 mm by 2–2.5 mm, widest at middle of capsule, hispid, persistent calyx convergent. Seeds 40–60 per locule, 0.2–0.3 by 0.2–0.3 mm.

Distribution : India, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, S China, Myanmar, Laos Vietnam, Cambodia, Malay Peninsula including Singapore, Indonesia (Amboina, Java – type), the Philippines, S China.
Ecology : Evergreen forests, deciduous forests, open places or shaded areas, 50–1,400 m alt. Flowering: August–March.
Vernacular : Tong haeng hin (ตองแห้งหิน)(Peninsular).
Notes: This species is distinguished by the hispid stems and capsules.
