Description : Shrubs to 5 m tall. Stipules broadly ovate, up to 5 mm long. Leaves ovate(-lanceolate), 8–12 by 3–7 cm, base rounded to subcordate, apex acute, glabrous to pubescent (especially beneath). Inflorescences terminal and axillary, simple or branched, with 1–3, or occasionally more, flowering heads on short peduncles. Flowering heads (across corollas) ca 2 cm in diam. Calyx lobes oblong to elliptic, up to 0.7 mm, obtuse at apex, pubescent. Corolla 5–8 mm long, glabrous outside; tube pubescent inside; lobes oblong, 1–2 mm long, sinuses usually with solitary black colleter. Ovary 2–3 mm long, sparsely pubescent; style 4–6 mm, exserted. Fruiting heads 1–2 cm in diam. Individual fruits 4–6 mm long.


Thailand : NORTH-EASTERN: Udon Thani, Nakhon Phanom; EASTERN: Ubon Ratchathani.


Distribution : From India eastwards (type from Bangladesh) to Myanmar, Indochina, China, Taiwan.


Ecology : In riverine vegetation, from sea level to 700 m alt.


Vernacular : Ta khrai nam (ตะไคร้น้ำ)(Central).
