Description : Small trees, usually < 20 m tall; bole sometimes fluted in old tree, bark fissured, grey-brown to greyish black. Stipules narrowly triangular, 5–7 mm long, divided almost to base, loosely surrounding terminal bud. Leaves elliptic, 6–14 by 1–5 cm, base obtuse to cuneate, sometimes slightly unequal, apex acuminate, chartaceous, glabrous, lateral veins 6–10 pairs, departing from midrib at angle of 45–50°, vein axils with hairy domatia; petiole 3–15 mm long. Inflorescences terminal, up to ca 10 cm long, each with 3–7 flowering heads (up to 3 pairs of opposite stalked flowering heads). Flowering heads 0.7–1 cm in diam. across corollas; interfloral bracteoles linear to linear-clavate, 1–1.2 mm long, glabrous. Calyx lobes up to 1 mm long. Corolla white; tube ca 2 mm; lobes ca 1 mm long. Anthers ca 0.5 mm long, protruding from throat. Ovary <1 mm long; style exserted for 4–6 mm; stigma small, globose to obovoidal. Fruiting heads 5–6 mm in diam. Capsules obovoid, 1–2 mm long, glabrous or with few scattered hairs. Seeds ca 0.5 mm long.


Thailand : SOUTH-WESTERN: Kanchanaburi, Phetchaburi; PENINSULAR: Ranong, Surat Thani, Krabi (Lanta – type: Kerr 18977, lectotype -K, isolectotypes -BK SING, designated by Ridsdale 1978), Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla.


Distribution : Endemic.


Ecology : Evergreen forests, mixed deciduous forests, beach forests, sometimes over limestone, 10–300 m alt. Flowering and fruiting all year round.


Vernacular : Tum kwao (ตุ้มกว้าว)(Kanchanaburi); di pli khao (ดีปลีเขา)(Krabi).
