Description : Tree 10–15 m tall. Leaves: petioles 2–5 cm long, hairy; rachis 6–10 cm long, shallowly grooved above. Leaflets 5–11, opposite or subopposite; petiolules 3–5 mm long, hairy; lamina ovate to obovate when mature, elliptic or ovate when young, (4–)7–11 by 3–6.5 cm; terminal leaflet usually obovate, larger than lateral ones, apex acute or retuse, base cuneate or oblique, margin entire, upper surface sparsely hairy along veins, glabrescent, lower surface glabrous or glabrescent, glaucous, distinctly reticulate; lateral veins 3–5 pairs; stipels absent. Inflorescences pseudoracemes and pseudopanicles up to 15 cm long, axillary, hairy. Brachyblasts absent or present, each bearing 2(–3) flowers, minute, less than 1 mm long; bracts triangular or ovate, 1–1.5 by 0.5–0.9 mm, apex acute, margin hairy, outside densely hairy, inside sparsely hairy; bracteoles inserted at base of calyx, ovate, ca 0.5 by 0.3–0.4 mm, apex acute, margin hairy, outside densely hairy, inside hairy; pedicels 2.5–3 mm long, densely hairy. Calyx tube 2.5–3 mm long, greenish, reddish or dark pink, subtruncate or minutely teeth; lobes ca 0.3 by 0.3 mm, apex acute, margin hairy, outside hairy, inside glabrous. Corolla pinkish; standard orbicular, 8–10 by 8–10 mm, apex retuse, base auriculate with basal callosities, margin inflexed, both sides glabrous, claw ca 1 mm long; wings irregular lanceolate, 7–8 by (2.5–)3.5–4 mm, base oblique, apex acute, both sides glabrous, claw ca 3 mm long; keel falcate, 4.5–5 by 4–5 mm, apex acute, base oblique, both sides glabrous, claw ca 3 mm long. Stamens monadelphous; staminal tube 5–7 mm long, glabrous; filaments 1–2 mm long; anthers oblong, ca 0.5 by 0.5 mm. Disc absent. Ovary densely hairy, 5–6 mm long, 3–5-ovuled; style 2.5–3 mm long, glabrous. Pods strap-shaped, woody, 9–10 by ca 1.5 cm, glabrous, corky. Seeds (1–)5, rounded, ca 1 by 1 cm.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai (Mae Rim), Tak; NORTH-EASTERN: Udon Thani, Khon Kaen (Chumphae, Ubon Ratana Dam), Nong Bua Lam Phu (Phu Phan Noi Forest Park); SOUTH-WESTERN: Kanchanaburi (Bo Phloi), Phetchaburi (Cha-am).


Distribution : Myanmar (type).


Ecology : Scattered in dipterocarp, bamboo and evergreen forests or cultivated as an ornamental and shading, 25–300 m alt. Flowering: March–April; fruiting: May–June.


Vernacular : Chak kachan (จั๊กจั่น), kha maet (ขะแมด)(Northern).
